Graham Barby was named Bowler of the Year at the annual Parkes Mens Bowling Club awards presentation held last Saturday.

Graham had a very successful year as a member of the winning team in Major Pairs, Major Fours, Mixed Fours and runner-up in the Major Triples.

He was also a semi-finalist in the handicap Singles.

All awards were presented following a very well attended social bowls afternoon.

46 bowlers turned out and played one game of Triples and 10 games of Pairs.

In the Triples game, Ron Murray, Joe Crowley and Mark Dwyer led all the way in their 31-13 win over Bob Freeman, Bill Skinner and Chris Dunn.

Wally Grant and Dave Johnson scored nine shots on the last three ends to defeat Ray Jones and Nimo Mills 26-16.

After holding a narrow 6-5 lead, John Hodge and John Ward won 10 of the next 12 ends to extend their lead to 19-7.

They went on to win the game against Bernie Mitchell and Geoff Freeman 21-11.

Liz Byrne and Dave Buggie scored 12 shots on the last four ends to record a come from behind 28-23 win over John Dunn and George Boatswain.

John Carr and Col Hayward held a narrow 7-5 lead over Gary McPhee and Warren Bevan after seven ends.

John and Col then won six of the next seven ends to lead 24-8 before they went on to win the game 30-15.

Maureen Bailey and Kevin Hynds were far too strong for Alan Affleck and Mike Valentine in winning their game 35-15.

Tony Byrne and Guy Ellery only lost five ends in defeating their more fancied opponents of Bruce Deland and Ron Hornery 24-9.

Tom Furey and Col Mudie, aided by one six shot and one seven shot ends, scored a 28-17 win over Ron Fisher and Warwick Parker.

Noel Nicholson and Graham Barby led all the way in their 21-15 win over Rob Irving and John Corcoran.

Matthew Parker and Jeff Matters (Forbes), aided by two five shot ends, scored a 28-20 win over Gwenda Carty and Arthur Corbett.

The last game saw Rhona Went and Ted Wright score a 29-12 win over Gordon Dickson and Stuart Kelly.

26 bowlers played social bowls last Thursday.

They played one game of Triples and five games of Pairs.

In the Triples game, Pat Murray (Concord), Rodd Kenny (Liverpool) and Geoff Freeman won the last two ends to record a come from behind 16-15 win over Bob Freeman, John Dunn and John Hodge.

After trailing 7-11, Alan Affleck and Mike Valentine won 11 of the last 12 ends to defeat Ian Mill and John Ward 31-13.

Les Kent and Arthur Corbett scored a big 36-11 win over Max Tomkins and John Carr.

In a very close game, Rob Irving and Col Mudie scored three on the last end to defeat Gordon Dickson and Graham Barby 22-21.

John Watson and John Corcoran won the last five ends to score a come from behind 24-22 win over Allan Wright and Kevin Hynds.

After trailing 21-9, John Keogh and Col Hayward won five of the last six ends to snatch a 23-all draw with Ron Hornery and Flip Fliedner.

Ron and Flip won the ends 11-10 in a very entertaining game.

Nine lucky bowlers won Christmas prizes on both Thursday and Saturday.

TWILIGHT BOWLS

The final round of the pre-Christmas competition was played last Thursday with 52 bowlers participating.

Casey Surveying 1 won the last three ends to snatch a 13-all draw with Back Trundle Road 2.

High Rollers had a good 16-7 win over Saints.

Other winning teams were Battlers, Super Bees, Casey Surveying 2, Elle, Back Trundle Road 3, We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M and Rok-FM.

The major prize winners were Battlers with Elle scoring the minor prize.

The lucky losers prize went to Bushies.

Following the bowls the pre-Christmas competition winners were presented with their prizes.

The winning team was Super Bees with We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M finishing runners-up.

The encouragement award was won by Two & A Half Fitters.

Thursday twilight bowls will recommence on January 22.
