A rescue crew is still trying to gain access to the cabin of a four-wheel-drive utility that is perched precariously against the back of an overturned semi-trailer on the Murray Valley Highway, about 30 kilometres north-west of Kerang.
The head-on collision occurred on a straight stretch of highway around 9.10am when the south-bound utility collided with a transport carrying a shipping container.
Long skid marks are evident and debris is scattered along the road.
The impact tore the transport trailer from the cabin and both rolled onto one side.
The utility is resting on its roof with the tailboard resting against the top of the truck’s trailer.

The highway is expected to remain closed for most of the day while collision investigators inspect the scene and the wreckage is removed.
