Jimboomba Cancer Council chairwoman Angela Fischer with the branch’s Gold Coast region highest fundraisers award.JIMBOOMBA Cancer Council (JCC) has once again topped the Gold Coast region, winning the highest fundraising branch for the third year running.
The branch received the Queensland Cancer Council’s (QCC) Cancer Free Challenge award at a ceremony recently for raising more than $56,000 throughout the year.
They beat their fellow Gold Coast branches of Beaudesert, Beenleigh and Southern and Central Gold Coast to take out the award.
JCC chairwoman Angela Fischer said the branch was overwhelmed at being the top fundraisers for the third year in a row.
“We were so surprised to win it again but also really proud,” she said.
“The award says a great deal about the community. We couldn’t have raised that much money without them.
“This year has been a tough year financially for many people and for them to still come out with such passion to support us and what we do is amazing.
“Most people’s lives have been touched by cancer and they want to help do what we do and that’s fight against cancer and hopefully find a cure for it one day.”
JCC was helped in its win through the Jimboomba Relay for Life event, whose top five fundraising teams raised just over $30,000 which was added to the branch’s total.
The rest of the money was raised through the branch’s other major annual fundraising events, including the Daffodil Ball, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and Pink Ribbon Day.
JCC was also recognised at the ceremony for being a hope ambassador for spreading hope to those affected by cancer, creating awareness about QCC and what it does and for raising funds.
