The talented defender has joined the ANZ Championshipsreigning premiers for the 2015 season.

She said after admiring many of the Vixens players on the sidelines for many years, the chance to play alongside themwas surreal.

“I was doing some passing drills with Bianca (Chatfield) and I just couldn’t believe it was actually happening,” Watson said on Wednesday.

“The fact that I am a Vixens player is still sinking in.”

Watson said the first three weeks of the pre-season was about increasing her fitness base ahead of the Christmas break.

“For me the first few weeks have been about adjusting to the Vixens standard,” she said.

“We have been doing a lot of strength and conditioning sessions and some weights at the VIS and doing a couple of court sessions.

“I have really been enjoying it, it’s been unreal so far.”

Watson said the key difference between training with her Australian Netball League team, the Victorian Flamesand the Vixens was the intensity.

“There is definitely a step up in intensity at training,” she said.

“You have to be going at 100 per cent from the get go and never let go of that intensity throughout the entire session.”

Watson said being around experienced players and receiving guidance from the Vixens coaching panel had inspired her to continue to push herself to be the best player she can be.

“I am trying to put myself in the best possible position going forward,” she said.

“There isn’t a lot of expectation for first year players, but I am doing my best to get a chance on court.

“I want to be in the best shape I can be to push for a spot on the team.”

The 20-year-old will now have a break over the Christmas period, where she will return home to Bendigo, before getting back into action in January.

The Vixens are set to play in a series of pre-season matches in February.
