RITCHIESIGA Supermarket located in Town Square will close in the New Year.
The supermarket, the largest tenant in the complex, located on the corner of John and William streets currently employs15 staff.
Its closure marks a difficult year for businessesin town with the only specialist electrical retailer Betta Electrical closing in July and the Albion Hotel being placed in voluntary administration in November.
The downturn in the mining industry and job losses have been blamed for the difficult trading condition for local businesses.
It is believed staff were told of the decision on Wednesday morning.
Singleton is home to two Ritchies IGA stores following the take-over of theformer Franklin’s store at Town Plazain November 2012.
At that time the Ritchies IGA, NSW state manager, David Scally was in Singleton to supervise the change-over and he told The Argus his company was absolutely committed to keeping the two Ritchies IGA outlets operating in Singleton.
“We will have the two stores operating in town to provide more choice and more competition,” Mr Scally said.
“It’s great to have one of stores in this end of town and we look forward to the arrival in this precinct of more supermarkets.”
The Argus contacted Ritchies IGA for a comment but their managing director was on annual leave.
