Luckily for Macarthur families, Disability Macarthur runs a playgroup that caters specifically to children aged two to six with disabilities or special needs.
Breakaway Respite Play Group runs on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at Disablility Macarthur’s Minto premises, and offers parents some time to themselves while their children can play and learn with trained care workers and volunteers.
Breakaway carer Anbagi Annamalai said ‘‘the program promotes a safe and nurturing environment and continues to foster physical and emotional growth’’ and ‘‘covers all aspects of each child’s development’’.
The group aims to prepare the children for the transition to school or pre-school with activities such as crafts, cooking, music, outdoor play, sensory play and community excursions.
Breakaway also provides an opportunity for parents and carers meet on a monthly basis to have a friendly chat about their child’s experiences.
